Double Roller Malt Miller

This stainless steel double-roller malt mill is core crushing equipment dedicated to beer brewing. Raw malt grains are fed into the top hopper and pass through a pair of counter-rotating adjustable rollers inside the main body. The combined squeezing and shearing force of the two rollers gently cracks malt into uniform granular fragments, perfectly retaining intact husks while fully crushing the inner starch - this structure greatly optimizes subsequent mashing and lautering performance. Two external handwheels allow precise adjustment of the gap between rollers to flexibly control crushing fineness according to different malt formulas. The whole machine is constructed with food-grade stainless steel, meeting sanitary standards for beverage production. Four sturdy support legs keep the mill stable during continuous operation, and the compact vertical layout takes up minimal workshop space, making it a practical crushing solution for small and medium craft breweries. Complete safety warning labels are attached on the front panel to remind operators of standard operating specifications.

Structure and Working Principle

Double Roller Malt Miller Design:
It consists of two parallel installed metal rollers (usually stainless steel), with fine textures or serrations on the surface to enhance friction.
The roller spacing is adjustable (typically 0.3 - 1.5mm) to control the degree of malt crushing.
During operation, the two rollers rotate in opposite directions at different speeds (with a speed difference of approximately 1:2.5), creating a shearing force to prevent excessive crushing of the malt husk.
Crushing process:
Malt enters the gap between the two rollers from the hopper. Under pressure, the malt grains are crushed open, separating into malt husks, malt flour, and coarse particles.
The malt husks are kept as intact as possible (for ease of subsequent filtration), while the endosperm is crushed into fine particles to release starch.

Products Description

Roller mills come with smooth or toothed iron rolls that rotate at matched or varying speeds. As the rollers squeeze and create friction, malt gets crushed. The endosperm separates cleanly from the husk. You can run this grinding process in one pass or multiple passes depending on your needs.

Based on the number of rollers, these machines fall into several types: two-roll, four-roll, five-roll and six-roll mills. Among them, the two-roll mill is the most common choice for craft beer brewing. It is widely adopted by breweries and holds over 87% market share in craft milling equipment. Brewers love it because it is easy to adjust, gives precise control over grind fineness, delivers solid throughput, runs quietly and keeps dust levels well contained.Malt mill

Feature

Doule Rollers Malt Milling Machine has the following basic characteristics

1. Softly break, maintaining the integrity of the wheat kernel.
Wheat germ separation: Through squeezing and shearing forces, the wheat germ is separated from the endosperm while maintaining the relative integrity of the wheat germ (reducing tannin release, avoiding filter blockage or a bitter taste).
Low heat generation: Slow grinding produces less heat than rapid impacts (such as hammering), preventing starch from prematurely gelatinizing.
2. Adjustable grinding particle size
Flexible adjustment of roller spacing: The gap between the two rollers can be adjusted manually or mechanically (usually 0.3 - 1.5mm), to meet the requirements of different malt varieties (such as barley, wheat) or saccharification processes.
Uniform control of particle size: The crushed particles are mainly coarse grains and flour, with few husk fragments, which is conducive to the balance of saccharification efficiency and filtration speed.
3. High efficiency and energy conservation
Low energy consumption: It breaks down by relying on the mechanical force of the roller rotation, consuming less electricity compared to the high-speed rotating hammer-type crusher.
High processing efficiency: The continuous feeding design is suitable for batch processing. For medium and small-sized equipment, it can process 50-500 kg of malt per hour.
4. Simple structure, easy maintenance
Modular design: Components such as rollers, bearings, and adjustment mechanisms are easy to disassemble, clean, or replace.
Durable materials: The rollers are usually made of stainless steel or special alloy steel, which is wear-resistant, rust-proof, and has a long lifespan. .
5. Safety and Stability
Overload protection: In case of obstruction by hard objects, the roller spacing can be temporarily widened through the spring mechanism to prevent machine damage.
Stable operation: The rotational speed is relatively low (usually 20-50 rpm), with low vibration and noise, making it suitable for long-term operation.
6. Wide applicability
Material compatibility: Apart from malt, it can also be used for crushing coffee beans, grains, nuts, etc. (parameters need to be adjusted).
Scenarios are flexible: It can be used from home brewing (manual roller) to small breweries (electric roller).
